It is known that, in the foot-bridges with the bending natural frequency of about 2Hz, large dynamic responses arise due to the resonance with pedestrian force. This paper describes about the vibration control using a tuned mass damper (TMD) for the foot-bridge with the bending natural frequency of about 2Hz. The TMD device is composed of auxiliary weight and coil springs, and the damping system is given by the fluid resistance capacity of the air flow passing through the narrow space between the outer cylinder and the auxiliary weight. In designing the TMD, the simulated value of the dynamic response due to pedestrian force was used for the bridge specifications. The performance test of the TMD was also carried out after the bridge completion. As a result, it was confirmed that the structural damping of the bridge with the TMD was about 9 times larger than without the TMD.
