Actual size Semi-active Hydraulic Damper (SHD), which realizes previously proposed semiactive damper system for large structures or important facilities, was developed and undergone dynamic loading test. SHD is efficient in terms of energy consumption as damping force is controlled by small flow control valve between the chambers. Dynamic loads were applied to the actual size SHD which has maximum damping force of 2MN based on the seismic response simulation analysis for the building with primary natural period of 2 seconds. Various controller gains were verified through the test, and application to other buildings which primary natural periods are 4, and 1 seconds were also surveyed in this test. SHD exhibited satisfactory performance that it can generate adequate damping force conforming to the control signal with sufficiently quick response maintaining enough stiffness. As a result, SHD was confirmed to have enough performance to be applied to actual buildings.
