Displacement errors in surface property data

摘要

The noise near the discontinuities in the surface property data isdescribed. The author shows that the noise in surface property datacannot be modeled simply as spatially white Gaussian noise as isgenerally assumed in discontinuity detector formulations. Near thediscontinuity there are significant translations between thediscontinuity indicated by the surface property data and the actual,though unknown, discontinuity position. The results suggest that thenoise models used in discontinuity detectors bear little relationship tothe actual noise in surface property data
