Optically pumped FIR laser lines have been obtained from about one hundred different molecular species with absorption lines coincident with the CO2 or N2O laser frequencies. The number of available FIR laser lines and the conversion efficiency change dramatically with the molecular species. CH3OH and CH2F2 are well known and especially rich of FIR laser lines below 200 μm.
