NUMERICAL SIMULATIONS OF A GLASS FURNACE AT SEMI-INDUSTRIAL SCALE

This paper describes the results obtained consecutively to numerical simulation of a glass furnace at semi-industrial scale. Part of this work falls under the European project CleanGlass aimed at proposing technological solutions for the reduction of nitrogen oxide emissions of industrial glass furnaces. Following this project, an additional parametric study was carried out by Gaz de France. This article presents the whole results obtained following these two studies. The goal of these simulations is to validate the numerical models used, by comparison between the results obtained and the measurements performed on the semi-industrial facility. Then, a parametric study was undertaken in order to observe the incidence of several parameters such as furnace operating mode and geometry on the NOx emissions. The numerical results are presented by detailed cartographies of the various variables and are compared with those obtained in experiments.
