The modification of proteins with ubiquitin is an important cellular mechanism for targeting abnormal or short-lived proteins for degradation. The ubiquitin-conjugating enzyme (E2) is one of the important enzymes involving in the process. Another cDNA encoding an E2 enzyme was cloned from a Clonorchis sinensis cDNA library by a large-scale sequencing. This new cDNA contains 1022bp with a putative open reading frame of 113 animo acids. Bioinformatics analysis showed that the deduced amino acid sequence is 84% identity with the ubiquitin-conjugating enzyme from Caenorhabditis elegans.
