Coalbed methane is a kind of natural gas mainly consisting of methane stored in coal seams, CBM industry is a new energy industry and emerging in China, the commercial production will start soon. The latest evaluation of China's CBM resources has passed, the total is 31 trillion m~3 to the depth of 2000m below the surface (which is equal to that of onshore conventional natural gas-30 trillion m~3) and ranks the third in the world. China United Coalbed Methane Corporation Ltd.(CUCBM) is a unique state company specialized in CBM exploration, development and production, China's CBM industry has made great progress from its set up. In recent years, CUCBM has conducted much exploration and evaluation of CBM resources in Qinshui Basin and Hedong coalfield of Shanxi province, Sanjiang-Mulinghe Basin of Heilongjian province, central area of Liaoning province, western area of Guizhou province and eastern area of Yunnan province. The CBM reserve of 40.2 billion m~3 has been proved first time in the south of Qinshui Basin of Shanxi province, and the scale of proved reserve is expanding. The Demonstration Project has come into development, the demonstration well pattern is proceeding production test. CUCBM is entitled by the State Council to the exclusive right to undertake exploration, development, and production of China's CBM resources in cooperation with foreign companies, who adopts Production Sharing Contract (PSC) in international cooperation projects. CUCBM has signed eleven contracts respectively with six foreign companies in recent years. 47 wells have been drilled and 29 wells are proceeding production test. At present, CUCBM has 14 new blocks for foreign cooperation. The commercial production of CBM in China is expected, China's CBM industry must be booming.
