Among the known polluting agents, nitrogen oxides are considered as the gases producing the most harmful effects. In order to develop adequate strategies for the reduction of nitrogen oxides in conventional combustion chambers of thermal power plants, a precise knowledge of the main formation processes is required. In this paper, a model of the chemical and fluid-dynamic processes involved is designed by capturing the interaction between oxidants and nitrogen, both in the flame and in its surroundings. This model, whose reliability is guaranteed from wide validation campaigns, can be considered as a valid support for the development of emission reduction strategies.
