Single phase AC power supplies with backup capability and full isolation between the input, the output, and the storage battery require either many conversion stages or a bulk isolation transformer. In this paper an AC power supply based on series parallel resonant converters is presented aiming to overcome the above mentioned drawbacks. The proposed converter features: (i) operation with unity input power factor, (ii) isolation with a single high frequency transformer, and (iii) operation with zero voltage switching in the high frequency converters. In the paper, the operating principles of the converter are described and a procedure to obtain the currents and voltages in the circuit is presented. Finally, experimental results obtained from a 600 W bread-board are given to validate the analysis and to demonstrate the performance of the proposed scheme.
