Traces the historical roots of electronic post production in the film and television industry. The author describes how electronic and computer technology has affected the traditional process of film based post production. In addition, he describes how Laser-Pacific Media Corporation, as part of its long term strategic plan has incorporated large scale general purpose computers in its building of its vision of the Motion Picture Laboratory in the age of digital media. The author explores why Laser-Pacific chose an IBM POWER Visualization super computer system as the foundation of this long term approach.
