ESPRIT project IBCAR aims to develop a multilayer LTCC substrate for MCM applications, into which is buried resistor and capacitor circuit components. The first phase of this work has concentrated on the development of the materials and processes required for the new generation of LTCC substrate. A primary requirement of this new LTCC material is its compatability with the materials needed to incorporate buried components in the multilayer structure. As part of this work, a comprehensive evaluation program has been carried out on the first oeneration of substrates. This evaluation includes environmental, thermal and electrical characterisation of dedicated test vehicles.
