The DIP (document image processing) system, and its configurations and functions are described, and the standards issue facing the DIP system is discussed. DIP involves scanning and electronically storing documents so they can be retrieved and used without requiring paper copies or file cabinets. DIP systems are most useful when integrated into a local area network that provides shared access to devices such as laser printers, scanners, and optical disks.
