摘要

A method has been developed to form ceramic shapes in-situ at high temperature without applying external stress. The curvature accompanying this process has been determined for alumina substrates coated with magnesia, silica, or calcia layers. The strain mismatch driving the deformation is caused by the diffusion of the coating material into the substrate with reaction to form new phases. The spatial distributions of elements and microstructures for the different systems have been characterized by scanning electron microscopy.
