Textron Fastening Systems and Akzo Nobel have a joint research project to bring FUZEBOX™ Aluminum Coating Technology to the automotive market. Akzo Nobel Polymer Chemicals LLC has developed a breakthrough chemical vapor deposition (CVD) process to apply metal coatings to a variety of substrates. By using industrial grade metal alkyls as the metal delivery vehicle, pure, uniform and conformal metal coatings can be achieved. Coatings have been as thick as 50 microns and as thin as 3 microns. The process lends itself to a number of geometries and is very well suited for processing small parts such as: fasteners, nuts, bolts, rivets, clamps, etc. By plating aluminum through this method, functional performance coatings can be attained with respect to corrosion, galvanic matching, adhesion, appearance, and conductivity.
