A composite of a resin and a filler mixed in a vacuum mixer is called densified or solid surface material. The chemical structure of the resin, particle size and distribution of filler and their performance determines the property of the material. The sophistication of the production equipment determines the quality of the mixture and naturally, the product derived from it. Corian, manufactured by Dupont, was the first commercially available solid surface material. Armed with a revolutionary surfacing material, Dupont focused on the kitchen and bath industry as the primary market for its product. Other competitors, such as Formica Corporation, Nevamar, WilsonArt etc, also followed in Dupont's foot steps. As a result, all of these companies became more active and visible in the kitchen and bath markets than any other industry, like marine or RV.
