This paper presents an application of a commonly used analytical model forrnthe transport of a miscible contaminant in uniform, unidirectional ground water flowrnwith three-dimensional dispersion, degradation or decay, and adsorption orrnretardation. The model simulates steady or non-steady state contaminant transportrnemanating from a vertical rectangular source of constant or decaying concentration inrnan infinite domain in the lateral and vertical directions and semi-infinite domain inrnthe longitudinal direction. The source has a finite width and depth with its centerrncoinciding with the origin of coordinates. It is found that the model, its steady-staternversion, and also an expanded version satisfy the initial and boundary conditions ofrnthe above transport process but do not seem to satisfy the respective basic advectivedispersionrnequations. The limitation and uncertainty about the validity and accuracyrnof the model predictions resulting from the above-mentioned mathematicalrninconsistency are identified.
