This paper presents an application of a commonly used analytical model for the transport of a miscible contaminant in uniform, unidirectional ground water flow with three-dimensional dispersion, degradation or decay, and adsorption or retardation. The model simulates steady or non-steady state contaminant transport emanating from a vertical rectangular source of constant or decaying concentration in an infinite domain in the lateral and vertical directions and semi-infinite domain in the longitudinal direction. The source has a finite width and depth with its center coinciding with the origin of coordinates. It is found that the model, its steady-state version, and also an expanded version satisfy the initial and boundary conditions of the above transport process but do not seem to satisfy the respective basic advectivedispersion equations. The limitation and uncertainty about the validity and accuracy of the model predictions resulting from the above-mentioned mathematical inconsistency are identified.
