Digital postage mark verification

Many Postal Authorities are now faced with the need to implement systems to verify Digital Postage Marks on mail pieces that pass through the postal process. The cost of a verification system must be balanced by the value of the fraud detected or prevented. This paper is concerned with the economics of verification systems designed to detect and produce evidence of fraud. Three types of verification systems are analyzed: manual, distributed automated and centralized automated.
