This paper evaluates the performance of fully polarimetricrnSAR data in iceberg detection and characterization.rnThe study aims to explore the potential of RADARSAT-rn2 SAR data to detect icebergs and growlers in Svalbardrnthat have broken off from the glaciers nearby. To be ablernto detect iceberg/growlers in a SAR image, a significantrncontrast between iceberg and background clutter is required.rnThe sublook cross-correlation magnitude (SCM)rnis extracted from the complex cross-correlation betweenrnsubapeture images and contrast between iceberg and searnclutter is measured. The results of target-to-clutter ratiornfrom the SCM indicate that the sublook analysis has anrnimpact on detection performance.
