The pavement of Ma Arden Expressway between Howe and Watt Avenues with rubberized asphaltappears to have resulted in an average traflic noise level reduction of 6.0 dB at the measurementlocations nearest the roadway, and an average reduction of 4.1 dB at the measurement locationsfhrthest from the roadway. The measured reduction in DNL values over a 3 day period ranged from5.1 to 7.7 dB following repaving of the roadway. The noise level reduction was found to occurprimarily in the 500 to 4,000 hertz fkquency bands, which is the typical range of frequencies affectedby the interaction of tires and pavement.
