The complex sound field and flow field inside the double expansion chamber silencers requireemploying the three-dimensional numerical approaches for the accurate predictions of acousticand aerodynamic performance of the silencers. In the present study, the boundary elementmethod is used to predict the acoustic attenuation performance, and the finite volume method isemployed to calculate the flow resistance loss of the silencers. The effects of internal structuresand inlet orientation on the acoustic attenuation and flow resistance characteristics of thesilencers are investigated in detail. The methods for reducing the flow resistance loss of thedouble expansion chamber silencers are explored.
