The load distribution along fully grouted rock bolts is evaluated numerically. In order to achieve this, three series of models were prepared using two dimensional and three dimensional finite difference codes. Firstly, plane strain and three dimensional models were prepared in order to simulate a rock bolt installed in the rock walls of a cylindrical tunnel and secondly two dimensional axisymmetric models whose purpose was to simulate approximately a rockbolt installed in the rock walls of a spherical cavity. Four different rock masses, obeying for yield the associate flow rule, were examined. The obtained results show the influence of the rockmass quality on the anchor length of the rock bolt and on its behaviour as a means of reinforcement.
