Evaluation of High Frequency Welded Line Pipe for Sour Service Applications

High Frequency Welded (HFW) line pipe has been used in the oil andgas industry since the early 1960’s. An increasing desire to specify theuse of HFW line pipe for sour service in the industry has emerged dueto several potential benefits, primarily reduction in cost and improvedlead time for delivery. In this paper, a determination of expected HFWline pipe performance and evaluation of the manufacturing capability ofproducing HFW line pipe for sour service based on NationalAssociation of Corrosion Engineers (NACE) testing requirements ispresented. Additionally, a historical analysis of HFW production andadvances in technological capability is shown along with a history offailures.
