With the increasing demand of natural gas worldwide, the needof economic transportation of liquefied natural gas has beenmaking the ship size larger and larger. Along with the largersized LNG carriers, safety consideration for LNG CCS (Cargocontainment system) should be crucial problem. Damage to theLNG CCS could causes LNG leakage into the insulation box,and the leaked LNG could have dangerous effects on thestructure of the CCS, such as hull damage. Of the two mainCCS, when subjected to internal and external shocks, leakage ofLNG occurs more often in the Mark III system (the foam layertype) because the structure of the insulation barrier consists ofpolyurethane foam and glass wool. In this study, we evaluatedpressure distribution of the glass wool with the condition thatcryogenic liquefied material leaked into the insulation box withconstant pressure of leaked liquid. Furthermore, flow analysiswas carried out with different glass wool to investigate how theleaked cryogenic liquid behaves in the glass wool. Simulationresult was compared to experimental results to realize cryogenicliquid in the glass wool.
