Impedance Modeling of Solid Oxide Fuel Cell Cathodes

A 1-dimensional impedance model for a solid oxide fuel cell cathode is formulated and applied to a cathode consisting of 50/50 wt% (La_0.6Sr_0.4)o.99CoO_3-δ and Ce_0.9Gd_0.1O_1.95. A total of 42 impedance spectra were recorded in the temperature range: 555 < T < 852℃ and in the oxygen partial pressure range: 0.028 < po2 < 1.00 atm. The recorded impedance spectra were successfully analyzed using the developed impedance model in the investigated temperature and po_2~range. It is also demonstrated that the model can be used to predict how impedance spectra evolve with different physical parameters such as the cathode thickness.
