Abstract: An immersion method that combines conventional minimum deviation technique and Fizeau interferometry for measuring the refractive index of irregular-shaped samples is described in this paper. The refractive indices of both sample and liquid can be measured and matched at the same time, thus minimizing the perturbation effected from the environment. A hollow prism is specially designed and constructed for these experiments. The results show that for precision this method reaches at least 10$+$MIN@4$/ for the refractive index and is primarily limited by the accuracy of fringe counting. !5
