Combining business model concept anddynamic capability view of the firm: Discussion between academics and managers of a mobile operator

In this paper we approach the current discussion on business models and emerging dynamic capability-view of the firm through a dialogue between academics and business practitioners. The authors set forth a quest to applicable managerial concepts and models In the dynamic environment, of which the ICT sector gives a good example. The authors working in the academic world first created a preliminary framework by combining the business model concept (Hamel, 2000) and the dynamic capability view of the firm (Teece et. al, 1997). The preliminary framework is used as a basic for discussions with the authors coming from business. The managerial relevance and applicability of these conceptual models is evaluated. Also another model used by the managers, the business logic model, is introduced and developed together. Finally some suggestions for further research are given.
