In this paper, we propose a coding algorithm for 3DTV signal with much less computation complexity. For fully utilizing the singleness of vision property of the human visual system, one of the image in each stereo pair is low-pass filtered and subsampled. Thus in this way we largely reduce the computation cost of disparity and motion estimation in the subsampled sequence without causing great degradation to depth perception and subjective picture quality. By the way, the correspondence between disparity and motion vector is exploited. According to this relation, we can further reduce the encoding time conspicuously. Considering the compatibility with 2DTV system, our whole coding architecture is based on that proposed by MPEG standard.
