A PRELIMINARY STUDY ON THE APPLICATION OF SYNTHETIC HEXAPLOID WHEAT DERIVED FROM 'T. DURUM / AE. TAUSCHII' CROSSES IN COMMON WHEAT FOR FuSARIUM HEAD BLIGHT RESISTANCE

The F_1, F_2, and F_4 plants of 'synthetic hexaploid wheat/common wheat' crosses and part of their parents were inoculated with Fusarium graminearum to evaluate FHB resistance. The results showed that the scab resistance in the F_1 and the ratio of resistance and susceptibility in the F_2 varied with the synthetic accession. In the F_4, some resistant head lines were generated from the crosses, although their parents had different scab resistance levels indicating that synthetic wheats are useful in breeding wheat for scab resistance.
