Using a doubled haploid population created from a cross between Fusarium head blight-resistant Chevron and a susceptible cultivar Stander, QTLs for FHB resistance have been mapped in Ma et al. (see Ma et al., p. 111 in this publication). In this study, we investigated the relationships between the FHB resistance and heading date and plant height through QTL mapping. A total of five QTLs for heading date were identified, distributed on chromosomes 2H, 3H, 5H, and 7H. Ten plant-height QTLs were mapped on all but 1H chromosomes, with significant correlation among FHB resistance, heading date, and plant height. A general tendency in this population is that the lower the plant height and the later the heading date, the more a plant is resistant to FHB. Using heading date and plant height as covariables, new QTLs on 1H and 4H for FHB severity were detected. The 4H QTL for FHB resistance was particularly useful in that it was associated with the dwarfing alleles and relatively consistent across various environments.
