Experimental modeling with the aim of elucidating the geochemical behavior of heavy metal pollutants and As in water-soil interaction processes in metal contaminated industrial region was conducted in three stages: (1) determination of the solubility and speciation of the pollutants in a dynamic water-soil system and the consequences for a secondary remobilization, which increases the environmental risk and anthropogenic impact on groundwaters, vegetables, etc.; (2) investigation of possible natural geochemical barriers to prevent the penetration of pollutants in aquifers and for bioremediation; (3) recommendation for prevention and remediation of metallurgical and mining pollution for recovery of the environment. The knowledge obtained about the behavior of metals in water-soil systems provides the foundation of GIS integration and of coupled hydrogeochemical-hydrodynamical modeling of these processes.
