Flow-through experiments were, conducted to study the dissolution of fuchsite, a Cr-rich variety of muscovite under oxidizing and non-oxidizing conditions at pH 2 and 9. Under non-oxidizing conditions, the release rates of Cr were lower than those of Al and Si even when all release rates were normalized to the elemental composition of the solid. Under oxidizing conditions, the normalized Cr release rate increased significantly at pH 9 and was comparable to that of Al. At pH 2, however, the presence of the strong oxidant (HOCl/OCl~-) did not enhance Cr release possibly due to adsorption of the product Cr~Ⅵ.
