This paper described the principle of multivariate discriminant analysis and it's application in regional assessment of slopes stability. As an example, we chose 37 landslide samples in Three Gorges Project reservoir area and 14 discriminative variables (including non-quantify) that influenced landslides stability, divided landslides stability into 3 groups as stability, low stability and very low stability. The multivariate discriminative model was built and discriminant function of stability of landslides was developed. By this discriminant function, we predicted stability of 37 landslide samples, and the precision of prediction was 94.1%. The research example showed that multivariate discriminant analysis was an easier to use and high precision method in regional assessment of slopes stability.
