The Statistical Characters of Water Quality in Bosten Lake, Northwest China

Bosten Lake locates in Yanqi Basin in Xinjiang province; it is not only the end of Kaidu river, and Huangshuigou river, but also the source of Kongque river. With the rich resources and favorable environment, Bosten Lake plays an important role to the environment protection and the economy development of whole Yanqi Basin Based on statistical analysis of the water quality data from 1986 to 1995, the contaminative indexes of every water quality index are calculated and their trend is analyzed. The main contaminative factors are determined. Furthermore, according to the concentration change of water quality dominating pollutants in Bosten Lake in past years, the Principal Components Analysis method is taken to analyze the water contaminative character of Bosten Lake. The results show that the water quality turns better from 1990s, especially the TDS and total hardness. But the concentration of phosphorus is increasing so that the eutrophication is the main threaten to Bosten lake. Some effective measure must be taken to prevent the increasing of phosphorus' increasing.
