PERFORMANCE OF GERM AND VIRUS FREE HEALTHY SEED CANE ON YIELD AND QUALITY OF CHEWING CANE

摘要

Field experiments were undertaken to assess the impact of disease free healthy microprogagated seed canes and conventionally field-selected seed canes on yield and quality attributes of chewing cane(fruit cane) . The germ and virus free healthy seed cane treatment was better than the conventional seed cane in their tillering potential, growth rate, plant height, millable stalks, stalk diameter and stalk weight. The disease free healthy seed cane treatment recorded 42.3% higher cane yield and 0.11%(absolute value) higher sucrose % cane as compared to the conventional seed cane treatment.
