In this paper,the principle of vibration reduction and isolation design is introduced, the mechanical model of vibration reduction and isolation devices which are used in continuous bridge,such as sliding friction bearing,viscous damper,Lock-up device and lead rubber bearing,is built. Then, the conclusion is draw about the dominance and limitation of these methods above. The first union of Sutong Bridge north approach as an example, after we optimized the location system of all the devices above according to the analysis results and many other factors are also taken into considered, viscous dampers are installed locally to reduce the longitudinal vibration while transversal LRB are applied to all piers. In this way,better effect can be reached.
