This paper presented the development of a Web-based Casting CAE System. The premise of this work is that the numerical simulation of solidification process has become a valuable tool for evaluating and optimizing casting pattern and rigging design to dramatically reduce the cost of reaching a satisfactory design that could be very expensive and time-consuming if a trial-and-error approach is used. The major competitive advantage of a Web-based casting CAE system, compared to a stand alone system, lies in its capability to share the limited resources through Internet within quite a lot of foundries, especially those medium and small scale foundries which may have difficulties to set up their own system alone. Java-based multi-tier architecture, CORBA-based distributed computing technology and Java Applet, Swing and Java Severlet technology are used for the implementation of the system.
