FRACTURE MECHANICAL BEHAVIOUR OF LIGHTWEIGHT AGGREGATE CONCRETE

Within a research project the fracture mechanical behaviour of several lightweight aggregate concretes (LWAC) with a strength range from 20 to 100 MPa and dry densities of 1.0 to 2.0 kg/dm~3 were investigated. Therefore, the specific fracture mechanical parameters such as fracture energy, characteristic length, uniaxial tensile strength and softening behaviour were determined in order to get a quantitative analysis. The gained values from the uniaxial tensile tests will be used to find a direct relation to fundamental material properties. Especially the influences of the different lightweight aggregates on the fracture mechanical behaviour are of interest. The paper gives an overview on generalized statements and shows further research needs.
