PRODUCT CERTIFICATION OF SEWAGE SLUDGE

Traditionally about half of the produced sewage sludge is used as soil amendment in Sweden, either directly by using sewage sludge for soil improvement, or indirectly by the production of soil from sewage sludge. To effectively and safely recycle nutrients, third party quality assessment of waste products is crucial to avoid unwanted effects and to keep the confidence of users. Such a quality assessment could be the certification system developed by the Swedish National Testing and Research Institute, the P-mark. This system is described in this paper.
