Current practice for the milling of uranium ores

Flowsheets for the milling of uranium ores have remained relativelyu unchanged for 50 years. Most notable improvements have involved the use of more efficient equipment, rather than innovative process developments. A major driver for flowsheet improvement has been the need to minimise both short-term and long-term environmental impact. As a result, most mills now include an often-extensive effluent treatment section. This paper reviews the current flowsheets for uranium milling, with emphasis on the more recently constructed mills and planned operations in Australia and Canada.
