Structure and mechanical properties of Cr base alloys containing B, C, Si or Ni are reviewed. The Cr rich alloys with alloying content up to 10at%B or 20 at%Ni possess the nano-size grains. The microhardness of the alloys shows the maximum around 5at% alloying element although the grain size monotonously decreases with increasing content of alloying element. The increase in volume fraction of grain boundaries affects the deformation mechanism. The admixture of metalloid elements of C, B or Si to Cr made the structure of the alloys amorphous. The bonding of chromium and metalloid elements dominates the strength of the Cr based alloys. The microhardness of the alloys with metalloids shows the maximum at the metalloid content around 50at%.
