The necessity of draining the liquid directly when the cryogenic liquid is drained underwater is analyzed. The process and characteristics of heat transfer between cryogenic liquid and water are described. The models of heat transfer, including the heat conduction equation and the equation of finite difference of heat transfer, are established. The computer simulation results of the model show that there are a set of isothermal curves in the liquid nitrogen column. The temperature distributions are symmetrical in the direction of r and changed as different τ. The duration distance of the cryogenic liquid column is defined. A simplified method is put forward independently to estimate the duration distance of the cryogenic liquid column. The experiment of draining the liquid nitrogen directly into water is done for the first time. The calculated value and the observed value of the duration distance of the liquid nitrogen column show good agreement.
