Proteomic analysis of mechanical stressed condylar chondrocytes

Mechanical stress is one of the key factors affecting remodeling of condylar cartilage, in which chondrocytes play an important role. However, little knowledge currently exists about this molecular event. To evaluate this mechanism, we developed animal model and cultured stressed chondrocytes, and then took a proteomic approach. Using 2-DE, the gels displayed 1 357±36 protein spots in the control group and 1 295 ± 62 protein spots in the experimental group (IE 3 ~ 10, 14 ~ 195 kD) respectively. Image analysis revealed that mechanical stress significantly modified the expression of proteins, 26 spots down-regulation and 12 spots up-regulation, of which 9 were identified by mass spectrometry (MALDI-TOF).
