PM_(2.5) SPECIATION SAMPLE PROCESSING SYSTEM

Research Triangle Institute (RTI) has developed a sample processing system for preparingrnsample modules and managing field sampling and laboratory analysis data for use withrnPM2.5 speciation networks. We are currently processing modules for more than 75 samplernevents (field and blank samples) per week with very few errors in module processing orrndata handling.rnCareful planning and organization has produced a system that ensures on-time delivery ofrnsampling modules, sample analysis, and high-quality data for a large sampling network.rnUse of predefined sampler configurations, master sampling schedules, barcode scanners,rnidentifier check digits and automated laboratory data entry ensures a high level of datarnquality. Results are reported to program participants and to the U.S. EnvironmentalrnProtection Agency's (EPA's) Aerometric Information Retrieval System (AIRS).rnThis system was implemented using Microsoft SQL Server as a relational database serverrnwith custom user programs written in Microsoft Access 2000. Custom Visual Basicrnprograms were written to automate data entry from data files produced by laboratoryrninstrumentation systems. This automation ensures that all laboratory data are transferredrnto the database without human data entry errors.
