Since McKinsey's first coined the expression 'the war for talent'-the term 'talent management' has been increasingly common in the world of human resources. With advancement of technologies, globalization of markets and population aging problems, there has seemed more and more discussion regarding the skill shortages and talent pool shrinkages globally. The demand for growth of the pool of management and professional talent and the eagerness for learning and growth have generated huge challenges in the war for talent in both the UK and China, because they continue to have a tight labor market, skill shortage persist in certain areas and the demographics are changing, as the rest of the world, which will cause additional challenges in the future. In this context, talent management appears to be a priority for many researchers. Thus, this study will go a step further to do a systematic literature review on talent management and depict our point of view about the usefulness of the term, and also identify and find out the main drives for talent management, as well as the areas for future research. The case study method will be used in this research. A comparison study will be done between the UK and China.
