TOWARDS THE MATRIX CONCEPT: A VIRTUAL PLATFORM FOR INTELLIGENT AGENT APPLICATION IN DECISION SUPPORT SYSTEMS

Development of multi-agent technology requires an efficient agent framework for agent communication. Most of current agent frameworks, such as middle-agent-based or agent-facilitator-based frameworks, are basically agent-to-agent model. These multi-agent frameworks rely on central coordinating agents, which basically inherent most characteristics of intelligent agent. These coordinating agents are unable to provide efficient and comprehensive information resource for problem-solving agents because they are designed as goal- or role- oriented agents that mainly deal with coordinating tasks. These agent-centred frameworks often neglect the living environment for agents and it suffers from: (ⅰ) lack the ability of adapting to environment, (ⅱ) lack the ability of self-upgrade, and (ⅲ) inefficient in information acquisition. In this paper, we introduce a new Matrix-Agent connection architecture called Agent-based Open Connectivity for Decision support system (AOCD). The core concept of this architecture is it provides a unique design called Matrix, which provides a living platform for agents and overcomes the above deficiencies.
