The paper introduces the history of Genetic Algorithms and the application statement of medical image segmentation. And this paper analysis the approach of image segmentation based on the Basic Genetic Algorithms. In addition to the Basic Genetic Algorithms, some improvements on them are made, for example a new mutation operator is proposed, and the fuzzy set theories are combined with the Genetic Algorithms for segmentation of the medical images, this advance the method for medical image segmentation of genetic algorithms based on the fuzzy set surface theories. Finally all the segmentation methods are compared in both the result of segmentation and the cost of computation.
