Environmental Reclamation of an Old Municipal Solid Waste Dump: El Mazo, Torrelavega, Spain

摘要

Nowadays, urban solid residues are not dumped in the area. The former dump has ben reshaped and closed. The introduce vegetation (specially herbaceous cover) is thriving satisfactorily. Water currents in the area show acceptable pollution levels and the new dump container is ready to function. Everything seen to denote that in a not very long period of time a regrettable source of environmental degradation and social tension has been removed. At the same time, the starting point for the recovery of the land has been reached bringing it into a condition which is very close to the one enjoyed by its surroundings or even for devoting it to another useful use.
