'Steam Bag' - a New Concept for Environmental Safe Filling of Airbags

A new technical development is based on the use of water steam as a filling gas for airbags. The basic principle is the use of a heated and pressurized water volume in a rigid container. After opening rapidly the container the transition of water into steam takes place due to the fast depressurization. This effect has been theoretically calculated and verified in practical laboratory tests. The system is called "steambag" because it requires only water and heat and does not need any chemical substances.
