In order to secure long term durability of offshore steel structures in tropical marine environments, the Japanese Association for Steel Pipe Piles (JASPP) conducted 15-year marine exposure tests using various organic coated steels on the coast in the Philippines. The corrosiyeness of the tropical marine environment in the Philippines is severer than that of temperate Japan. Corrosion damage such as coating exfoliation, blister and under-coating corrosion did not occur with thick "polyethylene" and "petrolatum +FRP" coatings. No through-thickness corrosion was observed in the organic coated steels except for the steel coated with "organic zinc rich paint + glass flake-filled polyester paint" in the atmospheric zone. Organic coatings were effective for corrosion protection of steel pipe piles in the splash and tidal zones in the tropical marine environments.
